The National Theater is a reference and one of the oldest institutions in the city. Today it is housed in a beautiful neoclassical building from the early 20th century. It regularly performs a repertoire of Serbian and Hungarian drama, with occasional international inspiration. The main theater group was formed in the 1920s from two existing groups, one Croatian and the other Hungarian. This particularity explains why the plays are performed in Hungarian and Serbo-Croatian.
