In the beautiful house that once housed the high school in Valjevo, the museum opened in 1951 and has about 24,500 objects in various collections divided into four departments: archaeology and numismatics, history and ethnology. The whole, belonging to the network of the National Museum, is still very much influenced by Soviet museography and one has to get used to the dusty mannequins in traditional dress, the reconstructed ethnographic rooms and the descriptive panels written in very small letters. Nothing is translated.
