The Old Court Church was built in 1818 on the site of a cemetery. It is dedicated to the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles. It was founded by Prince Miloš Obrenovic and rebuilt in several stages. Its bells were rung for the first time in 1829. Almost all important decisions of the Serbian people are proclaimed in the church. During the assembly held in 1835, the first Serbian Constitution was ratified. All parliamentary sessions until 1859 were held in the courtyard of this church, before being transferred.
