FORTRESS OF RAS

One of the most important devices in the defense of Serbian lands during the late Middle Ages, Ras gave its name to one of the most important Serbian states of the time, Rasa or Raška. Under the Latin term Rascia, it is found in many texts in Europe. After the expansion of the Serbian state, especially in Kosovo, the fortress became one of the homes of the Nemanjić, who had no designated capital. It then remained an important trading center until the founding of the city of Novi Pazar. Due to lack of funding, the site is still not developed.
