November 24 (November 11 according to the Julian calendar followed by the Serbian Orthodox Church) is the most solemn day of the monastery. This is the day dedicated to the founder of the monastery, Saint Stefan Dečanski. On that day, a special office was celebrated, during which the novices became monks and some monks were ordained priests. It is an important pilgrimage for Orthodox Serbs, the Dečani Monastery being one of the highest places of Serbian orthodoxy.
