JAMA MASJID
Mosque dating from 1784, topped by 2 minarets with 200 steps leading to a small platform offering a view of the island
This mosque, also called Masjid-i-Ala, dates back to 1784 and its construction is attributed to Tipu Sultan who had it built when he decided to rule the Mysore kingdom from Srirangapatnam. He frequently took refuge here and delivered the first preaching. The entrance leads to a rectangular courtyard, the prayer hall faces west, and its walls and ceilings are decorated with repetitive motifs. It is surmounted by two minarets that you can climb. After 200 steps, you reach a small platform that offers a spectacular view of the island.
