GUMBAZ
Mausoleum erected between 1782 and 1784 for Tipu Sultan's parents, at the end of a wide avenue lined with trees and plants
The Gumbaz is located at the end of a large alley framed by palm trees, trees and plants. The mausoleum was built between 1782 and 1784 by Tipu Sultan to accommodate his parents. It follows the plan of the Gumbaz of Bijapur, a quadrilateral placed on a platform, and surmounted by a large dome supported by 36 pillars of black sandstone, while the rest of the building is made of amphibolite. The doors and windows are decorated with a latticework inlaid in the stone. The central tomb is that of Hyder Ali. He is surrounded by his wife and his son Tipu Sultan.
