Temple whose real name is Rudreswara Swamy Temple, built in 1163 and dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Surya, to be visited in Warangal
The real name of the thousand pillars temple is Rudreswara Swamy Temple. It was built in 1163 during the reign of Rudra Deva in the Kakatiya style and dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Surya. It was desecrated by the Tughlaq dynasty when they took over the Deccan. Its thousand finely carved pillars never obstruct the view of the shrine. The ceilings and portals are decorated with figures of deities. The openwork screens and the elephants carved in stone are two figurative elements of the kakatiya style. A beautiful black basalt Nandi stands guard.
