This imposing center of Kerala arts was founded in 1930 by the poet Padmabhooshan Vallathol Narayana Menon. It is a university teaching all the traditional arts of the state: Kathakali (dance drama), Mohiniattam (sacred dance of the enchantress), Kutiyattam (dance theater), Ottamthullal (poetic dance), Bharatanatyam, Nangiar Koothu (exclusively female dance) and also the art of Panchavadyam (traditional orchestra). Shows and performances are regularly given by the teachers and students.
