CATEDRAL DE CUERNAVACA
Catholic church that consists of an atrium and an open chapel in Cuernavaca.
This Catholic church, a former Franciscan convent, was founded in 1525. It consists of an atrium, a temple of the third order, an open chapel and was the fifth foundation of New Spain. The interior of the cathedral, which shows the remains of 17th century murals, has been beautifully renovated in a happy blend of the ancient and the contemporary. The cathedral was originally founded to promote the evangelization of the indigenous peoples after the arrival of the conquistadors and the fall of the Aztec civilization.
