MUSEUM OF THE MUMMIES

Here is a museum that is both intriguing and terrifying, with over a hundred mummified bodies of all sizes, ages and shapes on display. The first was exhumed in 1865, when some skeletons had to be removed to make room in the cemetery. Instead of bones, these bodies were found with faces frozen in crude expressions. The minerals contained in the soil and the particularly dry atmospheric conditions contributed to the preservation of the bodies. Very interesting guided tour. Not recommended for young children.
