TEATRO DE LA REPÚBLICA
Inaugurated in 1852 as Teatro Iturbide, it became the first public building in the city to receive electricity in 1901. Several historical events have marked its history and that of the country: On September 16, 1854, the national anthem was first interpreted by Francisco González Bocanegra, originally from San Luis Potosí. For the little story, Bocanegra's wife forced him to participate in the government's competition in the hope that he would finally bring money to the home. It was also here, in 1867, in a war council, that Emperor Maximilian was sentenced to death and, in 1917, the Constitution of the Mexican United States was promulgated. Today he is the headquarters of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the State of Queretaro.
