The convent was built at the place where the battle of e 1531 was ceded by the Spaniards against local tribes: its altar shows the stone cross that appeared in the sky at the Expagnols, announcing victory. What was originally a small chapel was gradually converted into a convent, which served as a basis for the evangelization of the natives.
