BIBLIOTECA PALAFOXIANA
One of the oldest libraries on the continent, a large part of whose collection was donated by Bishop Juan de Palafox
It is one of the oldest libraries in the continent, recognized by UNESCO since 2005 with the title of Memory of the World. A large part of the collection was donated by Bishop Juan de Palafox y Mendoza in 1646. The 43-metre long nave, with its magnificent shelves of precious wood, was built in 1773 to accommodate the public. Gradually, the collection was expanded with donations from subsequent bishops and the incorporation of collections from the Jesuit colleges. It now contains more than 45,000 volumes (15th-20th century), including three incunabula.
