MADA CAMP
Ambalavao is home to the Parc National d'Andringitra, which was declared a national park in 1999 and has been managed by WWF since 1993. The park covers an area of 31,160 hectares and is characterized by its mountains, including Pic Boby, Madagascar's highest accessible peak at 2,658 meters. Andringitra is also an important link in the longest continuous chain of tropical forest remaining in Madagascar, stretching some 180 kilometers from Ranomafana National Park in the north to Pic Ivohibe in the south. The park is divided into three ecosystems: lowland rainforest, mountain forest and high-altitude vegetation. Climates vary from tropical humidity in the low-altitude forests to extremely cold temperatures at high altitudes, down to -8°C. Andringitra probably boasts the greatest biodiversity of all Madagascar's parks.
