COLORLINE
Located on the RN7 in the mushroom town of Ilakaka, Colorline is definitely worth a trip from Ranohira or a stop on the way to Tulear. A real place of life with its bar and billiards, you will find Thai, Sri Lankan and Malagasy people who come to meet there during their free time. On the spot, Marc and Guillaume are waiting for you to discover the show room in which lapidaries (stone cutters) and jewelers are busy. Each rough stone is carefully cut using well-established mathematical rules that differ according to the color and properties of the sapphire, in order to reveal its brilliance and reflect the incoming light. Then comes the jeweler who meticulously mounts the already cut stone to create a piece of jewelry. On the spot, a gallery allows to observe or to buy the cut gems or the produced jewels. A treat for the eyes and a very enriching and educational visit. The two men know how to transmit their passion! As for Mohamed, he will be happy to accompany you on a tour of the mines to give you an overview of the stone's circuit, from the earth to the showroom. The work of the men in the field is spectacular, so make sure you visit during the week to see the activity of the village, which is sometimes asleep on weekends. Don't hesitate to call to let us know you are coming. Photo or fossil discovery tours can be organized from Ranohira. We advise this original visit!
