VICTORIA PARK
This park, which extends over 10 hectares south of the city centre, received its name in 1897 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Queen Victoria's reign. It was originally an annex of the Hakgala Botanical Gardens (about 10 km from Nuwara Eliya) and was used for plant studies. Ninety percent of the tree and plant species found here are foreign to Sri Lanka. It is inhabited by a large number of bird species and is one of the main places to visit in Nuwara Eliya. It is crossed by the Nayu Oya, which is only a small river here.
