The Lutheran church was built in 1897 and has a beautiful wooded interior. Originally known as the Evangelische Kirchengemeinde zum Heiligen Kreuz, it became the first Protestant church in South America. Damaged in the 1906 earthquake, it was restored thanks to donations from the German community. In the earthquake of 2010, the damage was so extensive that the church was closed for a long time for rehabilitation.
