IGLESIA DE LA MATRIZ
Church built between 1837 and 1842 in the heart of Barrio Puerto, with its classicist and Creole architecture.
Just a stone's throw from Echaurren Square, in the heart of Barrio Puerto, you can visit this church built between 1837 and 1842. It is characterised by two architectural influences: the classicist one, which is expressed in its façade and tower, and the eighteenth-century Creole one, represented by its thick adobe walls and the gabled roof covered with clay tiles. It is the fourth church to be built on this site, the three previous ones having been damaged successively by the attacks of the English privateer Sir Francis Drake and by earthquakes.
