POLANCO ASCENDANT
This atypical elevator, inaugurated in 1945, moves vertically and offers an exceptional panorama of the entire bay of Valparaiso
Inaugurated in 1915, we think it's the most unusual elevator in Valparaíso! First of all, it's the only elevator in the city to move vertically (technically, this is a real elevator, the others being funiculars). Access is via a narrow, 150 m-long tunnel that cuts into the hillside, its walls covered with frescoes and graffiti. Its tracks rise up to a tower that offers an exceptional panorama of the entire bay of Valparaiso. Restored several times, the elevator regularly closes for maintenance.
