ASCENSOR CORDILLERA
Steam elevator inaugurated in 1887 in Valparaíso with two white cabins linking Calle Serrano to Cerro Cordillera.
Inaugurated in 1887 and steam-powered, it is the second elevator built in Valparaíso. Its two white cabins link Calle Serrano, located on the city map, to Cerro Cordillera. The latter was one of the first cerros to be populated in the city. Closed for several years for restoration, the device could no longer crack its old bones... but it's been running again since January 2019. On the side, you can access a staircase, rather steep, of 161 steps to reach the cerro.
