PALACIO CARRASCO
A three-storey palace which, since 1985, has housed the city's cultural center, Mackenna library and historical archives
This palace belonged to the saltpetre magnate Emilio Carrasco, who ordered the French architect Alfred Azancot to build it in 1912. It is a three-story building with a wide entrance made up of Tudor-style arches and small mansards with pinnacled windows. After the 1985 earthquake, the palace was restored to house the Cultural Centre, the Mackenna Library and the city's historical archives. In front of the entrance, the statue of La Defensa, by Auguste Rodin (1878), donated to the city by the French government, is noteworthy.
