CATEDRAL DE PUNTA ARENAS
Romantic cathedral built in the early century, with naves separated by Corinthian columns.
Built in the early 20th century, Punta Arenas Cathedral is in the Romantic style, with naves separated by Corinthian columns. It is one of two Salesian churches in the city. In the side chapel lie the remains of missionary José Fagnano. The original church, built entirely of wood, was completely destroyed by fire in 1892, four months after its inauguration. Nine years later, a new church was built, this time in brick. It was the first building in the city to be constructed using this type of material.
