ANDALUSIAN MOSQUE
On the other side of the Boukhrared Oued lies the district of Andalous, whose two treasures are the mosque of the Andalous and, next to the Mederasa Sahrij. A little erased by the neighbouring El-Karaouiyne mosque, the mosque of the Andalous was founded by a woman, Maryam al-Fihrya, sister of Fatima (founder of Karaouiyine) in 860. The sanctuary has seven doors, the most monumental of which, Bab Lahfa (barefoot door) is absolutely magnificent. Built in cedar wood and wrought iron, it is quite unusual for a mosque. The minaret dates back to 956. Finally, the presence of a rich library reflects the prestigious past of the mosque of Andalous. They can be accessed by R'enneh square or Bab Ftouh.
