TONSIL BASIN
Attractive artificial pond with recreational area, used as a water reserve in times of war or drought
This 4-hectare artificial basin was built on the orders of Moulay Ismaïl to irrigate the sultanas' gardens and provide entertainment for the women of his harem (said to number close to 500). The basin was also used as a water reserve in times of war or drought, and is irrigated by 25 km of canals. A real breath of fresh air in the city, this area has been converted into a leisure area. Opposite are the Moulay Ismaïl granaries. Go outside and walk along the walls to get there.
