Remains of fortified granaries, witnesses of an ancestral culture of the Anti-Atlas peoples, perfect for an instructive visit.
From the plural of agadir, which means fortified granary in the Amazigh language, igoudars bear witness to the ancestral culture of the Anti-Atlas peoples, who used them to store their precious possessions (cereals, saffron, jewels, honey, etc.) to protect them from their enemies. Some of these remains, several of which date back nearly 800 years, are in an advanced state of disrepair, while others have been restored to preserve their heritage. The most beautiful igoudar is located about 45 minutes' walk from Amtoudi. You can see it from the village up there, up there. Please note that the janitor is not on duty at all times. We recommend you make sure he's there before you go up, if you don't want to walk for nothing. The Amtoudi agadir, said to date back to the 12th century, is reputed to be one of the oldest in Morocco. The visit is instructive, and you'll learn a lot about the way these people lived. What's more, the view of the wadi and palm grove from up here is splendid. Built of dry stone, it has suffered the ravages of time, but remains a majestic place nonetheless. For some time now, families have not come here to deposit their valuables. A maze of alleyways, large rooms with purpose-built compartments, ancient beehives and well-preserved watchtowers make this a superb site. Another agadir on the plateau is also in good condition, unlike the other three in the vicinity, which are, alas, very run-down.
