THOUSAND ISLANDS NATIONAL PARK
Go there and contact
A great classic in the Kingston area. The cruise that weaves its way between the islands and villas is a must-do.
The famous Thousand Islands are protected by this national park. The park's Visitor Centre offers exhibits, a picnic area, interpretive programs and trails, and a panoramic view of the river.
The trails on the land portion are open year-round but are maintenance-free in the off-season. More than twenty islands are scattered in the St. Lawrence River between Kingston and Brockville. The park does not provide transportation to these areas, but several land portions are located between Mallorytown and Gananoque. If you have your own watercraft (canoe, kayak, boat), you can venture out on your own (maps are available at the Visitor Centre and Thousand Islands Water Trails can be downloaded from the website). Otherwise, you should know that many cruises allow you to go slalom between these islands, which are private for the vast majority; Canadians and Americans have their chalet or castle there to spend their holidays. You will be able to disembark during these cruises on Heart Island to visit its Boldt Castle (on the American side, please have all your papers in order).
To take full advantage of this exceptional natural setting, it is possible to go rustic camping or to stay in a ready-to-camp tent (oTENTik tents), especially on the islands. However, due to the popularity of the place and the limited number of spaces, it is recommended to reserve your place well in advance.
