BASILIAN MONASTERY (БАЗИЛИАН БАЗИЛИАН)
Two monasteries in Minsk, the oldest of which now houses a music school and the Belarusian Federation of Trade Unions.
Belonging to the Uniate Church, the Basilians were active in publishing. Their order was suppressed in 1839, following the banning of the Uniate confession. Two monasteries make up the Basilian complex. Located on Engels Street, the Renaissance-style convent is the oldest of Minsk's monasteries. It was built in the 17th century on the remains of pre-existing Gothic buildings. Today, it houses a music school. Rebuilt in the 19th century in classical style, it now houses the headquarters of the Belarusian Federation of Trade Unions.
