L'ILE AUX LARMES (СЛЕЗ ОСТРОВ)

Connected to the land by a hunchback bridge, this island hosts the commemorative complex «Children of the motherland, dead outside its borders», opened in 1996. In the centre of the island is a memorial chapel, erected in memory of the Belarusian soldiers killed during the war in Afghanistan. She recalls the church Sainte-Evfrosinija in Polotsk. Its walls are carved out of images of mothers, sisters and widows who are waiting in vain for the return of their beloved. A little further, on the edge of the river, the statue of the Angel in tears rises. During weekends of wedding motorcades come here to table flowers. According to tradition, the bride must touch the angel to protect his future child from war.
