EGLISE SAINT FRANCOIS-XAVIER (КОСТЁЛ СВЯТОГО СВЯТОГО ФРАНЦИСКА)
The masterpiece of Belarusian Baroque, this magnificent white cathedral dominates the city centre and is undoubtedly its main ornament. Consecrated in 1701, it belonged previously to the order of the Jesuits, which arrived in Grodno in 1622. Surmounted by two towers, its facade is decorated with three wooden statues representing the saints Peter, Paul and François-Xavier. One of the towers is installed one of the oldest clocks in the world. Inside, there are 14 altars in the Baroque and rococo style. The frescoes date back to the second half of the th century. Next to the church is the former Jesuit monastery, transformed into prison by Tsarist power after the national insurrection of 1830-1831.
