From the late th century until the beginning of the th century, many buildings were born on this street. After the construction of the railway in 1862, Ažeška Street became one of the main arteries of the city because it links the centre to the railway station. At No. 1 is the palace of Vice-Governor Maksimovič, built in 1803 in classical style. During the Franco-Russian war of 1812, he housed the headquarters of Jérôme Bonaparte. At No. 17, the museum house of the Polish writer Eliza Orzeszkowa who lived here from 1895 to 1910. At No. 22 you can find the old female gymnasium (1893), today the main building of the University of Grodno. At No. 23 stands the Orthodox Church of 1907 paying tribute to the soldiers who died during the Japanese-Russian war. At No. 37, the Maison de l'artisan which houses the historic museum of the Grodno region.
