PALAIS ROUMIANTSEV AND РУМЯНЦЕВ (РУМЯНЦЕВ ПАСКЕВИЧЕЙ И И)

This beautiful palace is located in the city centre on a hill overlooking the river Soj. It is the centre of an architectural complex that includes the church Sainte-Pierre-et-Paul, a tower, the chapel with the tomb of the family Paskevič, a winter garden and a beautiful park with a romantic atmosphere that stretches along the river. From the park, stairs lead to the Soj where you can continue the walk along the quays. Built in the late th century in Russian classical style, the palace originally belonged to Feld Marshal Roumiantsev, to whom Empress Catherine II offered Gomel as a sign of recognition for his military merits. The church of Sainte-Pierre-et-Paul, built between 1809 and 1819, overlooks the hill. Beautiful example of Russian pseudo-classicism, its interior is richly decorated with ceramics. In 1834 General Paskevič became the owner of the site. It was at that time that the landscaping began. The chapel and tomb of the Paskevič family appear in 1889 beside the church. Don't forget to climb up the tower, the ancient fireplace of a Sugar candy. There is a beautiful panorama of the city and its surroundings. Finally, being one of the few examples of the residence of noble families in Belarus, this complex retains an elegant and majestic spirit.
