BARON BLISS LIGHTHOUSE
16 m high lighthouse, named after a wealthy Englishman, Baron Henry Edward Ernest Victor Bliss, who travelled the world on his ship
Baron Henry Edward Ernest Victor Bliss (1869-1926) was a wealthy Englishman who travelled the world aboard his ship the Sea King and, at the end of his life, discovered the coast of Belize. Falling in love with the scenery, he died two months after his arrival without ever having left his boat, bequeathing almost 2 million Belizean dollars to the country. This 16-metre-high lighthouse, at the foot of which is a granite tomb in which he was buried in 1926, was built in his honour.
