The only competitive festival in Latin America is held every year in November to celebrate the world of cinema.
Since 1954, the most important film festival in the country has been held in Mar del Plata. This unmissable meeting place for filmmakers reflects the world of international and Argentinean cinema. Every year, films compete to receive the Golden Astor for best film. The award is named after the famous tango composer Astor Piazzolla, a native of the city. A competition is also dedicated to Latin American directors with the Ernesto Guevara prize.
