Founded in 1308 by Henri VII, Count of Luxembourg, the church was dedicated in 1311 to St. John the Baptist and the Virgin Mary. In 1606, under the influence of Benedictine monks, the church, then a hospital, became part of the new Neimënster Abbey complex. The sober interior houses a wealth of Baroque furnishings: the pulpit, the organ, the monumental gilded high altar and the sanctuary dedicated to the Black Madonna (to the left of the nave), whose statue was made in 1400.
