In this cemetery(DeutscherSoldatenfriedhof) lie 10,914 German soldiers, including 4,829 in a mass grave(Kameradengrab). 810 could not be identified. Most were killed during the Battle of the Bulge in the winter of 1944-1945. The Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge set up the first German cemetery outside Germany. A second German cemetery (262 bodies) is located in the Clausen district.
