Baroque rococo cathedral with over 400 kg of pure gold used to gild all the works of art.
Built in 1710, this Baroque Rococo cathedral is certainly one of the most beautiful of its kind in Brazil. Over 400 kg of pure gold were used to gild the works of art. Typically Asian symbols, such as dragons, are associated with biblical scenes and recall the influence of the colonies of Timor and Macao. The baptismal font was created by Aleijadinho sculptor Antônio Francisco Lisboa.
