GRUTA REI DO MATO
A superb cave, 998 metres long and 40 metres deep, with stalactites and stalagmites galore.
The Rei do Mato cave is undoubtedly the most spectacular of the region's caves. An hour's drive from Belo Horizonte, this superb 998 m-long cave (220 m of which is open to the public) descends to a depth of 40 m. Impressive stalactites and stalagmites can be seen, as well as cascades of waterfalls. It features impressive stalactites and stalagmites, as well as crystal-clear waterfalls. The main attraction are two superb 13 m-high stalactites. There is only one other stalactite of this size in Spain. They took around 20,000 years to form.
