Beautiful Minas Gerais church featuring a chapel with carved pulpits and a splendid painting of The Ascension of Christ.
Built in 1713, this is one of the most beautiful churches in Minas Gerais, according to Baroque art specialists. The carved pulpits in the Santíssimo chapel are attributed to Francisco Xavier de Brito, the master of the great Aleijadinho. The splendid painting The Ascension of Christ, in the central chapel, is by Maestro Ataíde. The overall effect is one of real beauty. The work, however, is attributed to his disciples, who worked on the gilding and finishing.
