FIESTAS DE SAN JERÓNIMO

Thousands of national and international visitors come to Masaya to take part in the festival's lively traditions.
The San Jeronimo festivities are celebrated on September 30, and continue over the weekends of October and November. Tradition has it that he was seen wandering around during the wars of 1856, 1912 and 1979, helping the unfortunate victims.
This is the region's biggest festival. Numerous makeshift stalls are set up. Ritual dances are in full swing, such as "las Inditas", a pre-Columbian tradition: this ancient farandole takes the revellers from house to house, some thirty in all.
