Masaya's main attraction, with its fortress-like architecture. The old municipal market was destroyed by two fires, in 1966 and 1978. Rebuilt in 1992, it was inaugurated on May 26, 1997. A fine selection of ceramics, hammocks (a traveler's favorite, of very good quality - expect to pay C$500 for a family hammock), but prices can be higher than elsewhere. Don't hesitate to negotiate, if your Spanish allows. Traditional "Verbena" shows every Thursday from 7pm.
