ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Small museum in a beautiful neoclassical building exhibiting objects from the nearby island.
This small museum is housed in a beautiful neoclassical building dating from 1901. It includes collections and exhibits covering a period from prehistory to the Hellenistic period. Among the pieces coming from the necropolis of Rineia, a very interesting and imposing terracotta pithos (jar). From the seventh century BC, it is decorated with relief representations of scenes from the Trojan War. Most of the objects come from the nearby island of Rineia, which served as a necropolis when it was forbidden to die and be buried in Delos.
