The fortified Franciscan church in Lopud is a landmark, with its bell tower visible from afar. Inside, the altar is surmounted by a monumental triptych by Nikola Božidarović, a master of the 15th-century Ragusan school of painting. The convent originally fulfilled defensive and humanitarian functions. From the balcony, which has been preserved, hot oil was thrown in the event of a pirate attack! Ravaged by fire in 1806, it has since been abandoned.
