LASTOVO NATURE PARK
Lastovo Natural Marine Park is made up of islands and islets, rocks and reefs, marked by a natural, cultural and historical heritage.
Since 2006, the park office has been located in the village of Lastovo, while the park's geographical area covers an archipelago of 196 km2. This marine park, the southernmost in Croatia, is bounded by the lighthouses of Sušac, Tajan, Glavat and Struga. It comprises 46 islands, including the largest (Lastovnjaci, Vrhovnjaci, Sušac) and a number of islets, rocks and reefs.
Thanks to its position far from the mainland, its mild climate and optimum sunshine, nature is blessed with exceptional flora and fauna, dense forests, fertile fields (olive groves, vineyards, aromatic plants) and a superb seabed.
So there's plenty to see and do in the park: cycle paths, hiking trails that combine nature and heritage. The coastal cliffs and underwater caves are best explored by boat, while diving reveals rich underwater treasures all the way to the protected underwater archaeological site (Petrovac).
Stargazing can be done here with or without a telescope. It's said that here you can see the most beautiful starry sky in Europe... Another factor contributing to the unique character of the Lastovo Islands is its cultural and historical heritage. Medieval and Renaissance churches, a unique civil habitat, a colorful carnival, all preserved by an ecologically aware population. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) considers the Lastovo Nature Park to be one of the last ten biodiversity treasures in the Mediterranean.
