TEGHARGHART, "THE CRYING COWS."
A sandstone pillar, located in Djanet, features a beautiful bas-relief depicting cattle with tears in their eyes.
Halfway between Djanet and the airport, follow the track to the right for 5 km to reach a solitary rock. The back of this sandstone pillar is adorned with a beautiful bas-relief depicting cattle whose eyes seem to be brimming over with tears. This is probably one of the herds that came to drink from the semi-permanent guelta at the bottom of the rock face. Go there in the late afternoon, when the sun caresses the cows and carves the relief.
