Museum dedicated to the Boubastis excavations, housing a colossal pink granite statue dating back to the reign of Ramses II.
The site museum replaces the El-Shaqeyah Museum, which was dedicated to the Boubastis excavations, and at that time displayed monumental statues from the site. Most of these remains were excavated in the late 19th century by a Swiss archaeologist. He found numerous vaulted necropolises, built of mud bricks, dedicated to the mummies of cats and rats. It was customary to offer them to the gods. More recent excavations have uncovered a colossal pink granite statue dating back to the reign of Ramses II, which can be seen on site.
