FILAKOPI
Archaeological site containing the remains of a volcanic stone fortress and the traces of a sanctuary.
Filakopi (Φυλακωπή) is an important archaeological site on Milos. Here we discover traces of a prehistoric city founded in the Early Bronze Age, around 3000 BC, and which lasted until around 1100 BC. A major cultural and commercial center, the art of ceramics flourished here: the famous statue of the Kyra of Filakopi is on display at the Archaeological Museum in Plaka. Today, the city is largely sunken, but the remains of the volcanic stone fortress and traces of a sanctuary can still be seen.
