Opened in 1924, it is the oldest bar in Long Beach and one of the most popular. The regulars come for the famous pickled collect (eggs in vinegar), but also for the wide selection of beer. Prices are reasonable. Other favorites from the menu: the fresh peanuts roasted, the excellent peanuts, and the Joe's Special, a hot dog with cheese. Friendly atmosphere at noon and in the evening.

Great place to grab a beer and some lunch style food, only downside is that it's cash only, but still well worth it

Perfect dive bar. This is a quintessential dive bar. They have cheap drinks and food. Their food (super limited) is great for what you want from a dive bar; pickled eggs, pretzel sticks, sausage (beef hotdog) sandwich. Highly recommended for a bar!

Best place ever to grab a schooner of beer and a Josts special sandwich. Very Quick service by really laid back friendly staff. This Host’s special sandwich is simple it has a type of hot dog, but I don’t think it’s a regular hot dog, it’s served on rye bread with yellow mustard and sauerkraut. Alongside with pretzels and a pickled egg. I never liked pickled eggs even when I was back Midwest but I tried Joe’s and now I look forward to having one when I go. The Prices are very low & beer on tap is fresh. The crowd here is awesome down to earth Plenty of room to grab a seat by the bar or in a large area in back with more seating. Heaps of pictures that portray the history of the bars locals. This is such a down to earth spot it can never get more real than this.

Great character. A must stop if you like historic places.

First time here and, no question, this is the best bar in LA.
