ST. LOUIS CITY HALL
Neo-Renaissance style building, strongly inspired by the Paris town hall model.
St. Louis City Hall was destroyed or moved many times as the city grew. The current building, in the neo-Renaissance style, is the work of architect Harvey Ellis, who drew heavily on the Paris City Hall model. Built from 1892, it was inaugurated in 1904. The exterior was never quite finished. Each side of the building has ornamental dormers with empty spaces. These were meant to hold sculptures but remained empty due to lack of funds.
