This Visitor Center was restored with support from the National Park Service, the city and donors
This Visitor Center is located in a former gas station that was originally owned by Independent Oil and Gas Station (IOG) and then Philipps 66, before being owned by different operators. It was in service from 1930 to 1970 before becoming a simple store. It was purchased in 2005 by the Baxter Springs Historical Society and restored with the help of the National Park Service, the city and donors, and became a visitor center in 2007.
